group project- dec. 8th

1 hour.

Today i have worked on editing the video. I have done most of it as of now including splitting each question and answer up into it's own section. I still am working on putting statistics at the beginning of the video and I am still looking for another video to share. Tomorrow we will all meet and work on finishing up everything and determining what each person is going to say with their information.

group project- dec. 7th

1 hour and 30 minutes.

Tonight we worked on our script more and videotaped our video following the script we had wrote. From here we are all still looking for another video showing more concepts of our topic and we are working on gathering our information for what each of us want to say. I am also working on editing the video including statistics and transitions between each question.

Group Project

1 hour.

Right now, all three of us have different information and have compiled information to present ourselves and put in our video. Tonight we are all getting together again to work on writing our script for the video. Each of us have an idea of what we want to do and how we want to do it with basically the same topic in mind. From our information we will present statistics and facts in the video while making the video funny so others our age can relate to it. The video will also present information using ethos, pathos, and logos. We will start our works cited tonight along with the script with all three of us combining our sources so we have a head start on that.

Learning Styles

During class, what I gained from the different learning style quizzes differs between the two. The first quiz, the Peterson's quiz, was the one that was more helpful of the two. The quiz suggested that I was about 55% auditory. I agree with this and what it said at the end but it also differs in each situation that is presented in school and how I am learning. Along with auditory, the next one was about 35% visual. Being my second highest one out of the three, I think this also pertained to me well but it still could vary between what I am doing and how I am learning. The second quiz on engr.ncsu.edu, I thought, was kind of all over the place. It had a lot of different instances and didn't help as much as the first one. This quiz showed that I favored visual and sequential. Again, I think it depends on the situation and what I am learning.

11/19 group project

Project: 30 minutes

This next part of the project I did on my own. From last time we were supposed to research and find information about the H1N1 vaccine that had negative effects on people. We were also supposed to find a video online about our topic that we could potentially show along with our commercial. I find one story about a woman and she was going to be a cheerleader but then after the vaccine she could only walk backwards normally and talk normally when she was running.
I thought that was very interesting and we could possibly connect it to the H1N1 vaccine but this happened to the woman after getting the flu vaccine.
There is a lot of research on the H1N1 vaccine but I found that most of the negative effects and opposing viewpoint is the same from person to person that talks about it. Not all of it is though so I think the research part of the project won't be that hard to talk about.

Banding Owls

My friend Anna and I had the chance to band owls. For the Wildlife Society, they introduced this event to everyone and we all had the chance to participate. On saturday the 14th we traveled to a forest around Bloomington and met with some people who were leading the banding. First we helped take down the nets and they set up the speakers for the owls to come. What they did is they had a box with a recorder in it and on the recorder was a recording of an owl. This was so that other owls would be attracted to the sound and they would fly around the area and eventually fly in the net. After taking down the nets, we waited an hour and then checked the nets to see if any owls had flown into them. After checking it we waited another 45 minutes. Checked them again, and waited another 45 minutes. After checking the nets that last time we had decided to wait for one more time to see if we caught one. Hopeful to catch an hour we were waiting in the cold just to check the nets one last time. After waiting and checking the last time we were not successful. Even though we had not caught an owl I learned more about how to and more about that specific type of owl.

11/17 group project

Project: 1 hour

As of right now we are doing a commercial to illustrate to the opposite of what people think about the H1N1 vaccine. Instead of thinking that the vaccine is good and that you should get it, we will illustrate the harmful effects it has on people.
We worked on collaborating what each person would do and what we will do as a group. Right now we are, for our commercial, Lauren is writing the script and then me and me and Lindsay will help edit it. For the actually commercial Lindsay and I will be in it and Lauren will videotape it. Then for the editing, I will edit the video and after that we will work on combining the information we all gathered into the speech part of it.
For the research we are all looking up information about the bad effects of the vaccine and then we are looking for a video to go along with the information that explains it.

11/12/09-group project

Project: 10 minutes.
While looking up ideas and looking at websites for different public service announcements, it gave us some ideas to write about for our project talking about the H1N1 vaccination, fighting against the norm that we are against it.

From other commercials, they were real life stories and even though we may not be able to make ours funny, it incorporated that aspect that was easy to relate to.

As of now, we plan on making a commercial to relate to adults and parents that have children. The commercial would be about the negative effects and how the H1N1 vaccine has affected others in a negative way.

Progress Journal: work on specific details to include in our commercial and what points we are going to make.

November 10th threat at Ball Gym

Last night on November 10th 2009, there was a bomb threat at Ball Gym at Ball State University. All the students were sent an email that the building was evacuated and to stay away from the area. Right when my friends had read the email that was the first time I had heard about it because I had not read my email before they had. Word quickly spread down my side of the hall of coarse and one of my friends had mentioned that Lafollette was of coarse the biggest dorm at Ball State which I happen to be living in which then triggered more thoughts in my friends and mine minds. Once it was cleared I felt relief lift out of me and my friends. All is well at Ball State as we know it.

The Greatest Wedding Entrance Ever

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8DCt3Lmi28

For those of you who haven't seen this yet, it is a wedding entrance to the song Forever by Chris Brown. This video is just so creative it made me want to do something like that for my wedding! But the more I thought about it, the more thought that I wouldn't go through with something like this. All my life I have thought and been brought up with the elegant wedding entrance so that's how I still see myself going about it. As much fun as this would be to do something like this, I still want my wedding entrance to be the elegant, sweet and soft entrance it usually is.

The Wildlife Society

I am not really sure of what the Wildlife Society does that much, since I am just joining it, but today me and one of my friends went to order t-shirts for it. As we were on our way, it was in the Cooper science building of coarse, which I have to say is the easiest building to get lost in. I had no idea where I was going! But, when we were on the floor about to fill out the sheet I noticed that there were all the preserved animals up there. Just walking up there and being on the second floor there are a lot of animals! It made me realize that the buildings that I have not gone into yet have so much and I should really look around more!

DVDs

A couple things that I have always wanted to do is one travel, second I have always wanted a couple dvd series from tv shows, and three is kind of left open to what I think of that week. Right now I can't really think of anything really important or something that I can't wait to do other than I can't wait for the holidays but that doesn't really count. So, my list of traveling is always getting bigger because I see places other people have gone that look interesting or I just see places when I am online. But the list of the dvd series have never changed. The ones that I really want include all the seasons of Friends, all the seasons of Full House, all the seasons of Gilmore Girls, and all the seasons of 7th Heaven. I am aware that Full House and 7th Heaven are old but I still have always wanted them!

Skype

If anyone hasn't heard of skype it is a program that enables you to talk to close friends, relatives, or anyone that you want to through video or on your phone. Even if someone doesn't have a video connection on their computer you can buy one or just talk to the person through your computer. I especially love this program because it allows me to talk to my friends from back home and while they are at college too. We can catch up and actually see each other rather than just talking on the phone. And this way I can see their dorm and they can see mine! There are many other programs that do the same thing but a current one and fairly new one is skype which all my friends and I use. It is great! Well, gotta go skype with me friend!

Apartments and Houses

It is so crazy that people are already looking for houses and apartments next year. How are you supposed to know who you want to live with next year only half way through the first semester? Sure you have your close friends but how can you tell if you want to live with them next year? On the other hand, next year, since my major is Deaf Education, I am living at the school for the deaf in Indianapolis so I won't be living in the house for the whole week just friday night and saturday night. Therefore it won't matter that much even though the people that are going to be living in the house are cool and will be fun to live with! It's so exciting but also very frustrating at the same time.

Entitled "Grocery Store Musical," this is hilarious. I love musicals so I thought I would watch it and see what it was going to be. Then once I started watching it, the people's reactions make the video even more. Also, at the end of the video they ask people's opinion and I have always wished someone would just break out in song and start singing randomly so my life would be a musical. It didn't even have to be about my life I just wish that we could break out in song just like this video anytime we want. It would be hilarious!

10 things i hate about you

Sitting watching 10 things I hate about you at home has sparked many ideas. First of all and most important is the fact that Heath Ledger is in the movie. One of the greatest movies and that he is in it makes it even better. Also, his role in The Dark Knight was one that everyone will remember. Even though I think that the role of the joker actually did kill him with everything that he had to take to make that role, it was a good way to end his life. He made the role of the joker and I wish he could still be living to be in more great movies.

6 year old in a balloon

http://www.khabrein.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=27701&Itemid=70

A 6 year old was really found in a balloon? When my friend told me this I immediately thought that there was no way there could have been a boy in a balloon. Once i read the article it still was questionable but one thing that stood out in my mind was they mentioned the show Wife Swap. The child in the balloon was not the child that everyone thought it was and the report doesn't give that much information about the incident but, how does a six year old boy survive alone in a balloon? Also, when they mentioned Wife Swap, they mentioned it because the boy everyone thought was in the balloon was found in his garage hiding. His parents had been on the show and since he was hiding people are questioning if it was because his parents were on that show. Is it possible that this could have caused the boy to hide? Sure. With all the reality t.v. shows that are beginning, there has to be question of the credibility and what the show actually does to the families involved. What I do wish is that the article gave more information on the balloon and the two boys. This just shows that not many articles are credible and you have to do good research to find things you really want to know.

Is Serena and other top athletes really the best athletes?

In this article, it points out that Serena Williams has won many tennis matches and has won many of the major tennis matches but one that she has not won is the WTA tour. Even though she has won multiple tennis opens and tours is she really considered number one? Dinara Safina, the winner of the WTA tour, is also one that could be considered one of the best in tennis because of her ranking at the WTA tour. Even though Serena didn't win the WTA tour is she really one to doubt that she is the best tennis player? With all of her other standings I think it is safe to say that yes, she is one of the best tennis players. Without one title and one tour that she didn't win, you don't have to win everything to be "the best."

Peer review

The best part of the peer review, I think, is the part of the balancing and the structure and the significance part. The most help I need with a paper is the balancing and the significance part so those parts on the peer review really help me. As long as people use detail and explain what they mean it really does help me expand and make my paper better. Since these parts can be exaggerated on and someone can write examples with their explanation it helps even more. Including parts of the text that we wrote and saying what they think can help tell me exactly what I need to change.

Times are changing

Getting back in the swing of things and school is one thing that I dread every year. Even though I have been in school for so long I still find it hard every year to get back in the motions of school. Also, once school starts it means summer has ended and that fall will be here before we know it. And, of coarse fall has come. I have to say that it is not as depressing as winter but it still isn't summer! The fact that fall comes right after summer I think makes it worse than it really is. The couple things that I love about fall though is of coarse the holidays. Halloween and Thanksgiving are certainly things to look forward to just like any other holiday. Holidays are the best parts of the year and I can't wait for them to come!

"Live like you were dying"

He said: "I was in my early forties,
"With a lot of life before me,
"An' a moment came that stopped me on a dime.
"I spent most of the next days,
"Looking at the x-rays,
"An' talking 'bout the options an' talkin’ ‘bout sweet time."
I asked him when it sank in,
That this might really be the real end?
How’s it hit you when you get that kind of news?
Man whatcha do?

An' he said: "I went sky diving, I went rocky mountain climbing,
"I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu.
"And I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter,
"And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying."
An' he said: "Some day, I hope you get the chance,
"To live like you were dyin'."

He said "I was finally the husband,
"That most the time I wasn’t.
"An' I became a friend a friend would like to have.
"And all of a sudden goin' fishin’,
"Wasn’t such an imposition,
"And I went three times that year I lost my Dad.
"Well, I finally read the Good Book,
"And I took a good long hard look,
"At what I'd do if I could do it all again,
"And then:

"I went sky diving, I went rocky mountain climbing,
"I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu.
"And I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter,
"And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying."
An' he said: "Some day, I hope you get the chance,
"To live like you were dyin'."

Like tomorrow was a gift,
And you got eternity,
To think about what you’d do with it.
An' what did you do with it?
An' what can I do with it?
An' what would I do with it?

"Sky diving, I went rocky mountain climbing,
"I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu.
"And then I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter,
"And I watched Blue Eagle as it was flyin'."
An' he said: "Some day, I hope you get the chance,
"To live like you were dyin'."

"To live like you were dyin'."
"To live like you were dyin'."
"To live like you were dyin'."
"To live like you were dyin'."

For those of you who don't know the song, it is "Live like you were dying" by Tim McGraw. Many of you may know it from the movie "The Bucket List" which was a very sad movie. For my song analysis, this is the song i chose. The three main points of this song that I have is to live our life to the fullest, to think of dying as a good thing rather than a bad thing, and that you usually don't use live and dying in the same sentence. Throughout this song the visible meaning of the song is to live life to the fullest. You have to count your blessings and remember that your life is how you make it to be. Throughout my life, this is one thing that I constantly try to do and I think this is a very good lesson.

Hair

Last night was the first night that I had seen hair before. Even though I knew a couple of the songs, for example age of aquarius, I didn't really know that much about the musical other than that it was about hippies. Of coarse, since I was seeing it last night, people in my other classes were commenting about it and I got to get more of a feel of what it was about. Although some people were right, knowing some of the prejudice of what others thought before going to see it gave me more of an insight. I knew what everyone else thought and I got to compare it to what I thought. The first thing that came to mind was how powerful it was. Expressing your freedom and your opinion is a major part of society or it has been before. I have always liked going to see plays and musicals and this was one of the best ones I have seen. Other than the ones I saw professionally, this musical was directed very well and was performed very well. The actors had very good voices and performed to their best ability. Overall, I am very glad that I could go see it.

New findings

I recently read an article that was about a squid. It is a 19.5 foot squid and was found on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. As i was reading and looking at the pictures, the pictures looked really gross but as I was nearing the end of the article it had said that the squid was taken to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History for them to investigate it more. After reading the article I thought that it would be really fun to just go explore and see what you find and get paid for it! I have always loved being outside and exploring but getting paid to fish and find animals for a living would be great. Any type of job like that where you go day to day and see what you find would give you a lifetime of stories to tell. That would be tons of fun! If only... I guess I'll just be a teacher.

New technology

Yesterday I was watching one of my favorite shows called So You Think You Can Dance. A group of us were in my room watching it and the commercials came on. I rarely watch t.v. here because I barely have time for anything and this commercial surprised me. It was a commercial for the iPhone. Usually that would be a little boring considering I don't want one but it was really interesting. At the end of the commercial and the end of showing all the new applications the user could have, it showed an application for babies to use. It was for helping them improve their skills using the iPhone. But really, do babies use iPhones? Maybe their parents would have one but if my child was little I would not be giving them my iPhone to use as a skill builder. I don't know if that is crazy but with all this new technology, where does it stop? There seems to be something new to buy everyday but do we really need it? I think some of the new technology is pointless, so next time when you buy something think if u really need it. Is it an application for your child who is two years old to use?

Things could be worse

After hearing Ishmael Beah speak all I think about is that when things are bad, they could be worse. Through all the things he went through he still managed to survive and has changed his life around. Ishmael's future plans are going to law school. He still has more than half of his life ahead of him and I could never even think about having to go through what he did at such a young age let alone having to go through it when I was twenty years old. When there is a tough time in my life all I have to remember is that we can get through anything. Having heard his inspirational speech, I will never give up when things are rough.

Everything happens for a reason

My mom is always telling me that everything happens for a reason. As much as I want to believe her sometimes I can't. When the event takes place I get nervous and sometimes mad but then when it is over all i think about is that everything happens for a reason. In the middle of everything I can only think of what is going on around me and the outcome of it. Is it going to be good or bad? Everything seems to be going wrong but looking back at it, I'm glad it happened that way and have quickly realized that it was good that it happened that way. I guess parents are always right.

A sorority girl

Ever since I saw my sister in a sorority I have wanted to be in one. She is now about five years past college and I have waited this long to be in one. Rush starts today and I can not wait! Some people ask me what it is about and what sororities do, and I probably am not the one to answer that question. After seeing what they do, I can just imagine what it is like to be in one and can not explain it very well. Meeting new people and helping people are things I always like to be doing. But, when I tell some people I am going through rush they look at me with a puzzled face. Me a sorority girl? The typical stereotype of a sorority girl is not who I am but that is also not what a sorority is about. The stereotype may be able to categorize some people but within each school the sororities differ. You have to find your niche and be yourself. It is a very exciting time and I can not wait!

Family

My family has always been a big part of my life. Ever since I was little we would take family vacations. We have traveled to Europe, Hawaii, California, Colorado, New York, Paris, and Florida ever since I can remember. I can now say that I can't wait for family vacations. Not only family vacations though. I can not wait for my family to all be together. My sister got married a little over a year ago, my oldest brother has graduated college, the next brother is in college, and my younger brother has just started his sophomore year in high school. All of us combined we can barely sit down and have dinner all together. This past weekend for labor day, I was probably one of 30 students that stayed on campus and didn't go home. Part of me wanted to see my family and friends back home but this was my home now. Once everyone seemed to be leaving on friday I found myself thinking that I could be leaving. It wasn't until I called my mom that night and told her no one was here that I wished I could've gone home. Not seeing everyone is a major change in my life and also everyone back home. My mom is now the only female in the house along with my dad and two of my brothers. In October I am going home for my high school homecoming and I can not wait. This is my home now and I have begun to make a new family here with all my friends. As much as I love it here, my family and home will always be in Illinois.

First time leaving

Coming from a big family can have its advantages and disadvantages. I'm never the first one to do anything but then I am constantly compared to my other siblings. For this topic though, it is different. College is different. Seeing my sister leave when I was in middle school was really different. My only sister was gone through my middle school years. Then came my oldest brother. When he left it was even weirder. His freshman year, my sister was a senior so it was the two of them gone for one year. Then came my other brother. When the oldest one was a senior he was first going to college. After each of them left it didn't seem so new to me. It just became a part of my life that was never going to be the same. Now my sister is married and my oldest brother is at home. But, this year it was finally my turn to go to college. After seeing three of my siblings leave and come back every year, it was just a part of our lives. Getting all packed up and ready to go could not have come faster. It seemed like summer just started and then the next day I was moving in. Why couldn't I move in later? It wasn't all that bad because seeing three other siblings leave before me I knew what to expect; well kind of. Going to college just became a way of life. Of coarse I couldn't wait for my turn to go to college but when it came down to it, I felt like everything was happening so fast! Now, all moved in and already two weeks of classes have gone by. It is crazy how time flies! I love it here at Ball State and couldn't wish for anything more. I waited my time and now I am experiencing everything I have always wanted to. Next to come is the only one left; my younger brother. I wonder how different my house really is!

It all comes down to this

It all comes down to this. What I have been striving for for the past four years. "Strike one" says the umpire. This is the last chance I get to really make it the most it could be. Now, here comes the second pitch. "Foul ball" the umpire yells to the whole crowd. I step back looking for a sign of what he wants me to do. Bases loaded, we need some runs! Coach gives me the sign and I step back into the batters box. The next pitch comes and I bunt it down the third base line. Running as fast as I can, I make it to the base...

Top Ten Favorite Songs

Hey everyone! I just thought that I would start with my top ten most favorite songs. This list will likely change by the end of this semester considering that there is a variety of songs and whenever I hear a new song and like it, I always listen to it. Music is a big part of my life and I feel that I can really express myself through it. I was in band starting in middle school through sophomore year and I was in choir starting freshman year through high school. Listening to music really calms me down and if I'm in a bad mood it changes that in an instant. Now, here's my top ten list! Enjoy.
1. Summer Nights by Rascal Flatts
2. You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift
3. I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas
4. Best Days Of Your Life by Kellie Pickler
5. Don't Stop Believing by Journey
6. Sweet Thing by Keith Urban
7. Life is A Highway by Rascal Flatts
8. I Run To You by Lady Antebellum
9. You and Me by Dave Matthews Band
10. Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson
